In my
previous blog I poured out my soul on the need of this country to pray, little
did I know that these prayers would be needed again. The events of the west
gate mall have left an unimaginable dent in our spirits given the maiming of
innocent civilians with reckless abandon. Once again my heart pours out to the
families of those who perished and injured in the inferno.
We
are now certain that the west-gate siege is finally over; this is after about a
week of speculations, hoopla, nay-saying and what have we. I personally, once
again commend Kenyans for the show of solidarity, unity of purpose, love all in
one basket; we have over time been accustomed to calls of concord when tragedy
falls upon us that notwithstanding, we did well in the call for blood
donations, funds et-al and this is what my allies refer to as ‘call ya ukweli’ (translated ‘true call’).
All
that said and done, it’s now time to apportion some blame and or shed some
light on the events that lead to the massacre of more than 60 people. My first
point of discontent arises in the area of immigration, I mean how do this
weapons get into this country in the first place. The other day we were treated
to spectacular debacle by KTNs Sensational duo of John Allan Namu and Moha
Jicho Pevu of how easily weapons are purchased and brought into this country, i thought it was a big joke, is this how anarchic our
country is? Can we continue feeling safe when fire arms are being peddled like njugu karanga or perhaps it’s time that
everyone ‘got himself a gun!!!' Our security cycles must truly step up their
game otherwise Kenyans will continue being subjected to the whims terrorism and
its related impacts, we have to tell the government that kenyans and the world at large are watching.
Someone please tell Kenyans where the deadly Samantha lewthwaite aka ‘White Widow’
was and what is her relationship with this attack. The daily mail a UK online
magazine reveals shocking news of this lady, this is a woman who has dedicated
her life to cause mayhem. In my daily online activities I came across a nerve chilling
poem dubbed Maybe Jannah [an Islamic
paradise] which circulated online in a whiff where she poetically outlines
her callous intentions a particular phrase ‘So
maybe tomorrow it will be Jannah, I look around at how beautiful Jihad is,
It’s alive in Kenya, It’s alive in me, And I’m breathing Jihad, It’s my time.' This
made my heart skip a beat, this could be seen by the horror on my face as I
stared at the contents before me. This is a lady who has dedicated her life to
ruins, captions of his letters have been discovered and even her past terrorist
activities have been uncovered including the Mombasa attack, she is described
to be a highly skilled woman who is also suspected to be the financier of
terrorist activities in East Africa. The question on many people’s lips is, did
we let the white widow escape again? Was she involved? Did our security circles
know of the impending attack? What did they do? I guess some of these questions
will never get answers and some of them will be under investigation until the public
eye shifts to the next juicy story or the next tragedy hits us but God forbid
it happens.
The
government should come out clear and tell Kenyans what the real situation is,
was she in Kenya or not? If not then, were the witnesses who said they saw a
woman reigning terror on innocent Kenyans and barking orders to the others
crazy? The Cabinet Secretary with all due respect should neither send Kenyans
on a fool’s errand nor pull a first one on us, that the victims maybe saw men in
women’s clothes. All the facts have been leading to the same conclusion, and
it’s only through witness statements and relevant facts do we reach a
conclusion that the woman being referred to by the eye witnesses might have
been the white widow. The security circle might have to eat humble pie at this
juncture and accept that there is a high likelihood that the cunning widow
escaped the dragnet again!!!
Finally,
questions flying around are in relation to how the building actually collapsed?
I am no architect neither am I a bomb, weapon or any other firearm specialist
to speculate on how 3 floors collapsed because of the gunfight, however the
test of a reasonable person must always suffice, I would want to believe that
the architect of the mall appreciated that the mall would have a large capacity
thus the issue of the standard of building should not be in question, the huge
smoke was purportedly because the terrorists were burning mattresses to confuse
security operations so what conclusion are we likely to draw here? What can actually
make the floors collapse, is it that the terrorists had hit a dead end and
decided to just end it and if so why did it take them so long if their
intention was to blow the thing up, or were security personnel tired of the
long time it was taking to capture the terrorists and decided to also sink it?
This among other questions could.
Perhaps
it’s time we developed a change of tact, we should upgrade our disaster
preparedness because we are alive to the fact that terrorist attacks are real. Once
again as I pen off, congratulations(I also have my personal heroes of that day)
to the heroes and sheroes and let us not forget that we are a nation on trial,
if one can maim and kill women and children in the name of the lord then we
should really be terrified as a nation, take heart my fellow statesmen!!
