The hullabaloo about the one third women representation has created an impasse in the implementation of the constitution even as the country gears itself for the oncoming elections.
I have continually stated that the constitutional provision will only work in state appointed positions, for the elective positions it will be a mammoth task to try and bend the hands of the electorates to vote for an imposes individual.
It will not work no matter what amount of lobbying is done. I have carefully studied all the suggestions and concluded that, its a wild goose chase for instance the same constitution provides that a person may decide to go to the polls as an independent candidate, how do they plan to counter that constitutional provision.
What will prevent an individual who feels that his right to contend for an elective position to go on his own accord. Clearly no much thought was placed before such a provision was placed in the constitution, and the poor politicians will keep on rumbling and scratching their brains but there is no way out of this.
To me it appears the framers of the constitution, were in a hurry to get the women to accept the constitution without due regard on how such a law would be implemented because, as it is none of them has a clue on the way forward.
This draconian clause seeks to hand over democracy to to the dogs, in no country have I ever seen people being given elective posts on a silver platter, we will be an international laughing stock if we even contemplate proceeding with such an ambiguous provision.
We are a country in a Dilemma,if only the parliamentarians and the executive could accept this simple and put other mechanisms to ensure that no injustice is committed it would be a step in the right direction.
There are two possibilities that I can think of right now. Its either the one third rule is discarded so that all participants can fight it out squarely at the polls or the right of individual to go to the polls without a party be done away with, which would also be a means of 21st century slavery, we would basically be living in in a despotic democracy if u get what am saying. Looking at it closely we have only one option that will not bring about a constitutional crisis and a national outrage of voters.
Lets do less yapping and more working parliamentarians, we don't want to be taken to the unpromising land in this era of information, people are more aware now you try what you are doing and you will see dust and wonder whether the long, waited apocalypse has finally come.
